Review by Richie Pirone
Why this album was sent to a site the deals mainly in hard rock and metal, I’m not sure. With that being said, I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt because I don’t really believe in trashing a record unless it really deserves it or if I’m just in an evil mood, which I’m not at the moment. So, without further delay I present to you Woodale’s Finished What You Start…
With the band’s bio referencing fellow Florida based acts such as Dashboard Confessional, Yellowcard, and Anberlin, listeners may be a bit perplexed when they first hear Woodale’s EP Finish What You Start. The EP straddles between indie rock and radio friendly pop rock not emo or pop punk. The first tune on the EP, “Here,” would have fit great on The OC, but unfortunately the band was forced to settle for being on MTV’s The Hills (the website doesn’t list which song was actually used). “Listen For Me” and “Baby, I Can’t” brings back memories of the mid to late nineties pop rock of bands such as Third Eye Blind and Matchbox Twenty. For a young band to be compared to bands like those who may not necessarily be my taste but certainly sold a few records in their day is a compliment to the song writing. The last song on the EP, “Keep Driving,” is certainly the most “indie” feeling of the five songs. You can picture the band playing it live with an average light show and the band basking in their perceived glory.
