Review by Karen Anderson

Serafin is a rock band that uses the best of what pop has to offer, but with a hard edge. No Push Collide is anxious, angry, sarcastic, down, and a sigh of relief. The instrumentals are both catchy and gritty. Serafin is pretty fasted paced, except for the song “Peaches from Spain” which is very peaceful.

The lyrics on the album are dark and filled with imagery and some very good metaphors. One of my favorite lines is Every tired second, every heavy page, they fold into a nightmare and my sense of rage from the song “Things Fall Apart.” The lyrics can also be somewhat random and don’t always seem to make sense like the line Is this you in front of me, white line space no subtlety, strike no time less thinking of, me and mine inferior in “Numerical,” but they always sound great nonetheless.

Oh how I love British accents. Smith has a beautiful voice that can be somewhat coarse. I love how he draws out the words and the back-up vocals are a nice compliment. Smith’s voice is great for conveying different moods and, like the music, is filled with energy. He also knows when to use melody and when to scream. Some songs start off calm and happy but dissolve into an angry mess as the vocals work themselves up into a scream.

It’s no wonder they tour with bands like Muse and Feeder and have been compared with the Foo Fighters and Jane’s Addiction, though it is a wonder they are not already big in the U.S.
