Review by Hawk Chavez
I love discovering artists I never heard of before. When I heard about the Industrial/Gothic Rock artist Jessica Vale and her intriguing style, I had to give her a listen. Vale’s latest album, Brand New Disease is a follow-up to her 2005 debut album The Sex Album. The title track, “Brand New Disease” fuses heavy gothic rock melodies and smoky vocals, supernatural guitars, and programmed beats.
The first track on the album, “Black And Blue” is the perfect song to a fright-night film; if a horror film was a song this track would fit to a ‘T’. With high-voltage drums, ghostly shedding guitar riffs, and Vale’s airy vocals; like any ultimate horror film it will keep you hanging on to the very end of the track.
The track that strikes the paranoia would be “Exit 12” with the fickle chords, starts out lively but quickly turns a twisted head. I didn’t know where the song was going but in a way, I was hooked into listening to it over and over especially at the crafty riffs. The callous, sassiness, sultry lyrics of “Mirror Check” wins the coolest in-your-face award if you ask me.
Recommended tracks: “Exit 12”, “Black And Blue”, “Mirror Check”, & “Together Alone”
