Review by Rachel Jablonski
Exploding early into the 2006 metal scene, Indianapolis’ Demiricous sets the pace with their debut full length release One (Hellbound), hosted by Metal Blade Records. The fury of the record, thrash/death metal abound, immediately sets the tempo for heavy music this coming year.
“Repentagram” begins the album fast and heavy with dead set thrash. Musical aggression obvious from the start, Demiricous opens with booming tempos and harsh vocals that set the velocity of the album. The guitar work and addictive beats are immediately striking, but not necessarily innovative. Massive guitar rhythms, abundant double bass drum, and guitar solos of tracks like “Perfection and the Infection” bring forth musical attack reminiscent of old school thrash, a satisfactory disclosure.
Lyrical content on the album contains traditional metal notions of violence and wrath, yet the words themselves seem irrelevant and are instead a means to simply iterate interesting vocal rhythms.
The presumed single of the album, “Vagrant Idol,” for which the band has already shot a video, is not the obvious choice in my mind, but will suffice. "Beyond Obscene" or "Perfection and the Infection," my personal favorites, may not be the initial features, but will be infectious with each album listen.
