Review by Brian McLean

Even though the name of the Sacramento based band Deconstruct appears to suggest a reversing process, the release of their first full length disc titled The Human Condition through the band’s own Apocalypse Records label proves the complete opposite.

The full length is a follow up to Deconstruct’s self recorded 2003 debut EP titled Sign of Things to Come.

The Human Condition produced by Joe Fraulob, the band’s guitarist and founder, consists of ten solid tracks. It’s an impressive release for a band in search of a major label that they can call home.

It’s difficult to separate one, two, or more tracks on the release as standout or stronger cuts. Each track stands alone and could receive spins on any station with a hard play list.

Some selections on The Human Condition are heavier than others such as “Welcome to the End” and “No Way Out” which are the first two songs.

Other tracks like “Automatic," “Parasite," "Time Kills," “Black Hole,” and the title track may have slower tempos but the heaviness element is still there. It’s the songs like these that separate Deconstruct and give the band a song writing edge when compared to others that are seeking that same goal, the record deal.

The clincher for radio or that final hurdle just may be “Thrown Away” or “Queen of Misery." Both songs have that sound that will appeal to younger masses and the choruses to go along with it.

To have the elements that will take a band to the next level, a band as a whole needs to be clicking on all cylinders and with results of The Human Condition, there’s no doubt left standing.

Not only is Deconstruct capable of producing results music wise, they are producing results marking wise and the name is being seen whether on http://www.metalsludge.tv, The Electric Basement compilation disc, or at NAMM.

Deconstruct is a promotional juggernaut which is a vital ingredient for a band that’s seeking a home in label land. Deconstruct takes the definition of DIY (Do It Yourself) to a whole new level and the results are definitely seen and heard.

There’s success in the future for Deconstruct and they are not waiting around for a knock on the rehearsal room door. Deconstruct is constructing their own success, fan by fan and day by day. As for the record deal on the table, it’s only a matter of time.

Fans of the heavier radio oriented genre would be wise to obtain a copy of The Human Condition. If not, just the hard work the band is doing to create their own success is reason enough to pick up a copy. It’s called support and any true fan of music should do that.
