Bands like Opeth, In Flames, Soilwork, Candlemass, and so on define the realm of metal prosperous in Sweden. On a more hard rock note was the Swedish band composed of four women musicians called Drain S.T.H. Blending some of these influences from their native country, IN DISTORTION WE TRUST! insist four women rockers from Stockholm, Sweden. The band, Crucified Barbara, thrusts their rock and metal influences forward with a debut album full of hard, heavy, and thick guitar riffs.
Melodic vocals overtop a hard rock/metal base mixed with punk elements is the foundation for Crucified Barbara. The lead vocals of Mia Coldheart contain a rough edge, but are catchy among distorted guitar riffs. The title track, “In Distortion We Trust,” includes hard guitars and vocals mostly sung, but intertwines a guest growl which makes things a bit more interesting. Other highlights include the band’s first single, “Losing the Game,” complete with a decent intro guitar solo. Also noteworthy is the band’s cover of Motorhead’s “Killed by Death.” But there is one major flaw that seems to kill the album.
Though Crucified Barbara displays a good sound, bad lyrics and poor song titles almost ruin the album’s credibility. Titles like “Motorfucker,” “I Wet Myself,” and “Rock n’ Roll Bachelor” are atrocious as are many of lyrics, which stereotype metal.
